I'm doing it

I’m jumping on the ‘Couch to 5K’ bandwagon. And I’m scared…very scared. This program has been around for quite some time, and I’ve read countless articles, blogs, etc. singing it’s praises, but I’m still scared.

I’m afraid I won’t be able to do it. I’ve never really been a runner. I’d get winded after a short amount of time, develop a side cramp and just say to heck with all this. I’ve loved the times I’ve spent on the elliptical, but I don’t own one, and being able to run outside (when it’s not frigid) would be so easy.

I’m afraid I develop some other injury. I had shin splints pretty bad a couple years back when I dove into working out and trying to run. The thought of those returning gives me the chills. A positive of the C25K program is it starts out slow. You gradually build up to running a 5K over 9 weeks.

I am trying to keep positive thoughts. I know I have to do something after the weight I’ve gained over the past 8 months. Maybe blogging about it will keep me more accountable. So wish me luck, and I will be trying out Day 1 today….or tomorrow. Eeek.

Okay, that's too funny! I was just talking about doing this when it warms up. I hate running but everyone loves this program so I figured maybe I'd give it a shot! Let me know how it goes!

Good luck, grasshopper. I'm thinking about buying a treadmill or eliptical, but I don't know if my body could take that kind of action!!!

I was thinking about this too! I think we're getting a treadmill in the next week or so. It's a used one and it won't have all the fancy bells and whistles, but if the tread moves on it, then C25K here I come! Good luck!

you can TOTALLY DO IT! I did it last April/May, and I am so not a runner! Before C25K, my furthest distance was just under a mile running... and I also did it being 40 lbs. over weight. You just have to put yourself in the mindset that you CAN! And you'll feel so empowered when you do it!

I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog. C25k programs are great. My advice is just take it slow. Don't worry about speed. I just finished another 5k on Sunday which I am blogging about now. Good luck with your goals.

Once you get going, you may want to look into a running group. I belong to a VERY slow group and we will be meeting once a week on Saturday mornings to run together in Akron. If you are ever intersted in running in a group, let me know. Running with a group and meeting others who like running can be better than running alone. I also reccomend looking into Summit Athletic Racing Club. I started running in June of last year and joined in August. Great group of people. My other piece of advice is pick out a 5k far out enough to give you some time to work on the C25k program but give you something to work towards. It helps. Best of luck to ya!
