Happy Birthday, Princess!

Fabrics of pink, purple and lace,
Every article of clothing thrown all over the place.

Trying not to trip over misplaced dolls,
Posters of puppies and princesses cover the walls.

A shoe over here, a shoe over there,
Too many ribbons for just one head of hair.

Markers without lids and crayons broken in two,
Old ticket stubs and pictures from the zoo.

All of these things cover every inch,
It’s no wonder you can’t find your stuff in a pinch.

And before I can yell to come clean up this mess,
My mind flashes back to a 20-year-old in a maternity dress.

Praying and wishing and pretty darn scared,
Would this baby know how much I already cared?

All of this love for this sweet, precious cargo,
With each day, the love continues to grow.

Memories now of how safe I kept you in the womb,
And today I hear your infectious giggle in the next room.

So for now, the dropped glitter and paper scraps can stay,
There’s nothing more I could ever wish for on your special day.

Well Happy Birthday to your princess. I love the poem. She is going to treasure that when she gets older!
